Season Forecast

Football season predictions and league table forecasts.

A football season prediction looks beyond the next fixture to possible final positions and competition outcomes. Vertex uses the available competition data and supported tournament rules to explore those scenarios. Check the season, stage and update before reading a projected league table.

Separate the table from the forecast

The current table records results already played. A projected position or outcome probability describes what the model estimates could happen from that point onward. A team leading today need not have the highest probability of finishing first, especially when remaining fixtures, games in hand or the tournament structure differ.

  • Check the competition, season and stage.
  • Read current points separately from projected outcomes.
  • Use the source and update information to place the forecast in time.

The tournament format matters

A season can include a regular league, split groups, separate stages or knockout rounds. Those rules affect what “winning the season” means. A calculation must match the actual competition structure. Where data or format validation is incomplete, availability should be stated explicitly rather than presenting an ordinary league table as a supported title forecast.

Read probabilities as a range of possibilities

A favourite can still finish elsewhere. Compare the outcomes that are actually offered for the chosen competition, and check whether the report has enough current information. Changes between updates can reflect new results, revised fixtures or refreshed source data. Compare reports from the same season and stage before interpreting a movement as a change in team strength.

Evaluate forecasts against the right results

A forecast should be assessed using the version recorded before the relevant outcomes were known. A completed season allows its final table and outcomes to be compared with those earlier estimates. During an unfinished season, intermediate monitoring cannot establish final-season accuracy. Availability of an evaluation also depends on having a suitable saved forecast and verified final results.

  • Use an earlier recorded forecast, not a recalculation after the result.
  • Distinguish completed outcomes from unresolved scenarios.
  • Keep data coverage and forecast accuracy as separate questions.

Common questions

Is the projected table the current league table?

No. The current table records completed matches; projected positions describe possible future outcomes under the model.

Why is a competition unavailable?

The required current data or supported format may be incomplete. Check the status shown for that competition; a match-level analysis and a complete season model need different inputs.

How are season predictions different from match predictions?

A match prediction estimates an outcome in one fixture. A season forecast considers the wider competition and its remaining schedule under the supported format. Use Match Analysis for one pair of teams and My Strategy to filter upcoming fixtures by your conditions.
